Call for Board Members
/Long Winter is seeking new Board members to serve for two years (renewable) starting August/September 2024. The Long Winter Board is an engaged group of volunteers who support the programming and operating collective and shape the strategic directions of the project.
This position will collaborate with staff, arts administrators and other Long Winter supporters in order to provide guidance, community connections and a wide number of perspectives. Long Winter would love to hear from enthusiastic, passionate and dedicated applicants who are committed to sharing their knowledge and resources by actively contributing to our mandate to present unique multidisciplinary arts events each winter in Toronto.
While we’d love to hear from anyone who’s interested in supporting Long Winter, we are focused on candidates who can bring expertise in one or more of the following key areas: financial oversight, fundraising, legal and marketing. We also welcome applications from artists who are seeking experiences on artist-run boards in organizational positions.
About the Board
Long Winter is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors that meets 10-15 times per year. As a publicly-funded arts non-profit, a minimum of 50% of the Board is composed of artists. Long Winter relies on the Board for expertise in areas such as governance, cultural collaboration, development, programming, financial oversight, marketing etc. Board meetings involve high-level discussions about strategic goals and conversations about operations, programming and strategies for supporting the staff and collective.
Board members are elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), and the upcoming date is August/September 2024.
About Long Winter
Long Winter is Toronto's essential all-ages, pay-what-you-can inter-arts series that takes place throughout the winter months. Featuring over 200 local artists/collectives and welcoming 5,000+ participants per season, Long Winter animates multiple rooms on multiple floors, transforming spaces into immersive, collaborative environments. Events are dense and eclectic, showcasing a broad cross-section of Toronto's cultural and subcultural artistic activity. Featured work includes performance art, theatre and dance, large-scale sculptural installations, projections (single and dual screen videos, still images), visual installations (print, painting, photography collage) and interactive presentations including original video games by local programmers. Initially housed at the Great Hall on Queen Street West, Long Winter has a proven track record in programming consistently sold-out shows at venues ranging from the Gladstone Hotel to the Hearn Generating Station (Luminato) to the Galleria Mall. We are passionate about integrating diverse artistic communities and culture and gathering some of the most exciting, cutting-edge local talent under one roof.
